guess who just got home from the hospital? yup, me. last week was a fake out, and the real flu hit at 3 am this morning. i am now hydrated and so so tired. this is definitely not going to help with my nursing issues.

Last night while I was nursing Kate, my niece, who is 2 and I had a funny conversation. She was very interested in what was going on.
Addie: You have another one?
Me: Yes, I do. (thank goodness there are only 2)
Addie: Do the other one!
Me: (I obeyed.)
Then she stared at me, and Kate, and very profoundly said, "Kate's pillows?!"
Even a two year old can see there are multiple purposes to Kate's pillows.

Weaning part 2
The reason I ask is because Kate is acting like she is over it. She will nurse for a few minutes and then pull off and complain. However, she doesn't cry once I stop. And she doesn't act hungry. We are on the same schedule as usual.
So I first thought maybe I am not making enough..then I thought maybe it was the antibiotics I was on...then I thought maybe she was just done with me. Which, I totally am NOT ready for. I went through 11 weeks of pain, blood, tears, and flat out suffering at the beginning, so I am committed. She is not even 6 months yet, so I feel like it is too early anyways.
So, any advice. I have been drinking like crazy. I got some Organic Mother's Milk Herbal Tea, that is suppose to help. Trying to eat more protein. I am also on Weight Watchers and have been losing 2 pounds a week on average. I asked the lady who runs it today and she said 1 pound a week might help. I just need some advice. Any diet while nursing and have trouble? When and if she wakes up at night, she gets a bottle. So, I have stopped that. Nursing only.
Why can't it be easy?
ps. when I was buying the tea, the checkout lady looked at me and said, "You know what helped me, a beer." She said it helped with production, and helped the baby sleep better. I am suuuure it did!

When to wean?
Questions...
1. How old was your baby/babies when they were weaned?
2. Did you wean them? Or did they wean you?!

I turned in my first project for my photography class last night. I was super nervous. The teacher projected the photos up on the screen HUGE, and then they were critiqued. He acted surprised at my photos and asked if I had taken a photography class before. (I did, in high school. I spent all senior year in the darkroom.) Not to brag, but I blew everyone out of the water! Ok, I am bragging. But I am so proud of myself. And I felt like I could have done so much better. I shot them all in one day, with a sinus infection, and the stomach flu brewing, with Kate in toe.

The talented Elizabeth took Kate's newborn pictures when she was two weeks old. We just love them. I have shared a few, but here is the link to the slideshow, here.

Halloween 08
Kate was a Ballerina for Halloween. I made her tutu; I am a real mom now. She had a leopard bow on her head, a onesie with Leopard hearts, a pink/brown/leopard tutu, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers. Doesn't get much cuter than that!
Kate was loving her tutu. It was in her mouth the whole night! We carved pumpkins last Sunday night and Halloween morning we woke to find our pumpkins a little shorter than the day before.
Kate watching Baby Einstein. She has on her "I love my Mummy" shirt and beanie her Grandma Pam sent! So cute!

One man down
This week has been long! I am ready for it to be over. I lost my grandpa on Wednesday night. It is bitter-sweet. We all miss him, but it was great to be able to honor and celebrate his life this weekend at his memorial. We had all found comfort in being together and sharing stories and memories of Papa. We are blessed to have a close knit family. Within minutes of hearing that the end was close, the waiting room and halls of the hospital will filled with our family. Within one day of his passing, the entire family was together, no one missing. Well, just one.

Heavy Heart
Tonight I am sad. My grandpa, Papa, passed away on Wednesday night. The house has been filled with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. There has been yummy dinners served each night. There has been tears, but more laughs. The small house is packed, but the feeling that someone is missing cannot go unnoticed. It just feels different. I suppose it always will. Papa was such a presence. Always telling jokes or stories from his past. Always enjoying his family around him.
I feel so thankful that I listened to my gut, and went over last week and spent 2 days listening to his life history and recording it. I also felt inspired to bring my camera. Those pictures will always be precious to me. The memory that I have of sitting in the TV room, one on one with Papa, listening to story after story, is priceless to me.
I am thankful for the knowledge I have of the gospel, and that I will see him again one day.
